Types of hearing aids

Our hearing aids come in different styles and sizes. The decision on which type to fit a customer greatly depends on their hearing loss profiles, shape of ears and the different needs of the customer.

Picking the wrong type may affect the performance of the hearing aid as well as the customer’s comfort. It is best to discuss with our audiologists before making a decision.

Why Choose Oticon?

The next big thing in hearing aid technology – BrainHearing™

We don’t hear with our ears, we hear with our brains.

Old hearing technology is made for the ears only. It distorts, compresses and closes down surrounding sounds which are out of sync with reality. This causes stress in the brain, drains your energy and withdraws you from social life.

Therefore, Oticon introduced the new BrainHearing™ technology in our hearing aids. Instead of closing down sounds, it opens up to a whole soundscape. This technology stimulates the brain while reducing effort and freeing up mental energy. It improves speech understanding, reduces listening effort and increases memory retention in all settings.

With Oticon hearing aids, you get closer to normal hearing.

Cochlear implant
Hearing aid
How it works• Bypasses the damaged part of the inner ear
• Transforms sounds into electrical signals that are sent directly to the auditory nerve and on to the brain, where they are heard as sounds
• Amplifies sounds that would otherwise not be audible to an individual
• Amplified sounds travel through the outer and middle ear to reach the cochlea and auditory nerve

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a hearing aid last?
The average lifetime of a hearing aid is 3-5 years. However, it depends on how well you take care of your hearing aids. Here’s how you can take care of your hearing aids:

  • Leave the battery compartment open when you are not using your hearing aids. This conserves battery life and helps ventilate any moisture.
  • Always keep your hearing aids clean and dry; get into the habit of cleaning your hearing aids every day.
  • Use a clean cloth and a small brush to clean your hearing aids. Never use oil, water, or household cleaning products.
  • Check the sound output every day – after you have cleaned them – and remove earwax if necessary.
  • Always check you have removed your hearing aids before you go swimming, take a shower, or apply hair spray.
Do I need to upgrade to a new hearing aid if I’m only using it when going out?
It is always advisable to use hearing aids at all situations and all day to experience the full benefits.  The latest technology of Oticon’s new hearing aids give better sound supports in outdoor and noisy listening situations. It allows better speech understanding and listening attention with less effort.  We advise to do a risk-free trial to experience the difference before deciding on the need to upgrade.
What hearing aid models can I trade in?
All hearing aid models of any brands, in any conditions, will be accepted for this trade-in promotion.
What are the terms and conditions for the trade-in?
  1. We will be collecting the old hearing aids under this trade-in promotion
  2. This promotion cannot be combined with other discount promotions at Hearing Partners.
  3. The old hearing aids can only be traded-in but not to be exchanged for cash
  4. This promotion is valid till 31 December 2020.
When is it time to change your hearing aids?
  • Your hearing aids don’t work as well as they used to, even after numerous repairs.
  • Your hearing aids don’t have the latest technology such as Bluetooth connectivity for streaming to devices and rechargeability.
  • When you want to harness the latest development of hearing aid technology to improve your listening experience.
  • Your hearing loss has worsened and you can no longer hear as well as before.
  • The hearing aids you purchased online don’t work.

If any of the above statements apply to you, it’s time to consider an upgrade!

Why are hearing aids so expensive?

A large percentage of the cost is due to the amount of research and development needed to continually improve the technology that powers your hearing aid. These days, advanced technology uses digital software to enable the filtering of unwanted background noise and enhance speech and environmental sounds. Moreover, hearing aids are often customised to ensure they correct your specific hearing issues and meet your comfort preferences and lifestyle requirements.

What are the differences between cheap hearing aids sold online and those prescribed by hearing care professionals?

Many “hearing aids” sold online are not actual hearing aids but Personal Sound Amplification Products (PSAP) which are not registered as a medical device.  They often provide sub-standard general amplification and often do not work very well as compared to professionally prescribed and fitted hearing aids. These devices may further damage the hearing system if it is overly amplified without proper adjustment and assessment.  Additionally, a hearing care professional is not physically available to offer any assistance for prescription and fitting, so there is no way it can be adjusted according to the user’s hearing level. If you go to a clinic, there will be

  • a proper consultation with a hearing test conducted by a hearing care professional,
  • a post-fitting review and hearing aid tuning by the hearing care professional,
  • on-the-spot hearing aid troubleshooting service, and
  • further counselling on communication strategies while wearing hearing aids.
I have tinnitus. Will wearing hearing aids make it worse?
Hearing aids will not worsen tinnitus. In fact, it may help to decrease the effect of tinnitus. There is also a feature within Oticon’s hearing aids to reduce the effect of tinnitus via sound masking and relaxation.  Please consult our audiologists and audiometricians for tailored advice for your condition.
Does my ear wax build up affect the sound quality of my hearing aids?
Excessive ear wax in the ear canal will affect the transmission of sound from the hearing aids to the ear. Wax buildup will also clog the output of the hearing aid causing the sound to be weak, distorted or non-existent.  This is one of the leading causes of hearing aid repair. Thus to prevent this, it is advisable to clean your hearing aids daily.
