Instrument Selection and Care Processes

At Hearing Partners, we carry a vast selection of adult and paediatric hearing aids. Our friendly and knowledgeable audiologists will recommend the best device for your condition based on the results of the hearing test.

After you get your hearing aids, our hearing care professionals will advise you on the post-fitting processes including maintenance, upgrades and repairs.

Parts of a hearing aid

These are the 3 main parts that make up a hearing aid.

  • Microphone: The microphone detects sound and converts it into electrical signals. These signals are then transmitted to the amplifier.
  • Amplifier: The amplifier makes the signals louder.
  • Speaker: The speaker sends the amplified signals to the ear.

Types of hearing aids

There are 2 main types of hearing aids — behind-the-ear (BTE) and in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids.

Behind-the-ear (BTE)

  • Traditional behind-the-ear (BTE)
The speaker for this type of hearing aid is situated in the body of the device.
  • Receiver-in-canal (RIC)/ Receiver-in-the-ear (RITE)
The speaker for this hearing aid is attached to a wire which goes into the ear.

In-the-ear (ITE)

  • In-the-canal (ITC)
ITC hearing aids are slightly bigger in size as compared to CIC hearing aids.
  • Completely-in-canal (CIC)
CIC hearing aids are designed in the shape and size of the ear canal.
  • Invisible-in-the-canal (IIC))
IIC hearing aids are worn far inside the ear canal such that they are invisible to others.
